“Libertarian Republican” Eric Dondero wonders whether conservatives are more libertarian than libertarians, in the conservatives’ praising the demonstrations and criticizing the government’s crackdown in Iran. I think that most rational people in our country, libertarian or not, are rooting for the Iranian people and their freedom. And it’s a good idea that we speak up about that, as well as people in the media do that. But is  it necessary that our government officials make a  resolution condemning the Iranian government, as they did in Congress with Ron Paul being the lone “nay” vote? I like the idea of not only praising the protesters,  but private Americans and people from other countries getting literature and videos of free-market educational material, by Milton Friedman or von Mises etc., and information about our own country’s founding and the Bill of Rights especially the First Amendment, translated into Farsi and given to people in Iran so they can learn just how to make their country freer.

The problem is when people in our country mistakenly want to use the officialdom of government, our government, to do those things.
